Sometimes people respond with, "All you have to do is ask." or "How come you did not ask?" Well, I have learned sometimes people- including myself- don't ask because we don't know what to ask. Not that our vocabulary is not large enough to find the words or that we lack courage: sometimes you flat out don't know.
In my new profession which by the way I am giving all credit and responsibility to God, I believe I will be successful but looking at where I am today even makes me question it. It seems like most days I am being pulled more directions than I have limbs and I am praying that all my limbs stay attached. Some may have only a few strands clinging on, but I thank God they are still attached.
So what do I do? I should ask God for help first before asking veteran teachers for help. I should wait for God to respond and show me what to do and where to go before taking the next step. I should remind God that this was His idea for me to teach at this time, at this school, these particular students and with these particular resources. I should keep my mouth closed so I can hear Him speak to my Spirit since I asked Him for help. What else should I do? What else should I ask? I don't really know. Somebody has to know. God had to tell somebody because all this frustration, lack of sleep, discontentment, anxiety and questioning is not of God but the enemy. Jesus defeated the enemy and I just told my students that we must have the authority to defeat the enemy too because Jesus lives inside of us. If I told them the truth, then why do I feel like I am standing in quicksand?
This weekend I went to a Book/Bible Study that I have attended for several months. The book has transformed my life in ways I never imagined. The discussions and revelations that have transpired from our meetings and encounters with the Holy Spirit are indescribable. However, the one thing I can describe is that the Holy Spirit is real, tangible and alive; speaking in tongues is vital to our relationship with Jesus Christ; and all my questions to ask and to be answered can be addressed when I pray in The Spirit. I am convinced of this. So that is the answer to the questions I have asked, didn't ask and did not know what to ask. They are revealed when I pray to The Father in The Spirit. Oops, I guess I just confessed that my time praying in the Spirit has been slipping!
For a minute or two, I struggled with 1 Corinthians 14:4 because I did not understand what it meant to edify myself. I thought it meant to puff myself up when actually it is like building up spiritual muscles. The more I pray in tongues and commune with the Holy Spirit, the stronger my Spirit becomes. The stronger my Spirit becomes, the greater level of discernment I possess, wisdom of Spiritual things that God wants me to know, easier for me to hear His voice and direction so I am doing what I am suppose to do during His timing, and operating in any other gifts He ask me to at the particular times He designates.
Why are these things important? For me because I do not like living with all the negative things I mentioned before- anxiety, frustration, doubt, questions, etc. Is praying in tongues a cure-all? Will I never have negative emotions or attacks from the enemy again if I pray in tongues? Jesus said trials will come. However, since I am continuously praying in tongues, the attacks have less of a sting. By staying fit and strong in my Spirit, I am maturing in my relationship with Christ which means I am preparing for new levels and new assignments. By communicating with the Father in my private prayer language, the devil leaves me alone because He is frustrated from not knowing what Jesus and I are talking about. That is the best benefit of praying in tongues as far as I am concerned- the enemy has no idea of how God is equipping me to fulfill the call on my life.
In the midst this, I am excited about helping others receive their prayer language. Just like a good restaurant we recommend and brag on to our family, friends and students. We should do the same thing with recommending the baptism in the Holy Spirit to our family, friends and students. The food from your favorite restaurant is a gift only when you go to that restaurant; but receiving a new language that brings you in the presence of God can be enjoyed at anytime of the day.
God is beautiful and He loves me enough to give me a language that only He and I understand. This means He wants one-on-one time with me and that's special!

Teaching Me How To Pray
I am in a season where a lot is going on around me indirectly that I have no control over except by praying over the situation and the people. It is a weird season but good in many ways but scary in others. It is not a good feeling when the actions of others can have such a huge impact on your own life but an empowering feeling knowing that by faith and prayer that all the results will work out for my good because I love God and believe I am called to the things He has purposed in my life.
I am looking at some situations that affect and will affect my household that appear on the surface to be compromise but remember that I was also taught by one of my friends/mentors to ask myself, "What about this situation do I NOT know?" In more cases than not, I do not know a lot!
Some of the changes around me this season that I do not fully understand but will pray over and about is our youth pastor being promoted to a church in Austin. I love this man and his family and have learned so much from them. They trusted me to help mentor the kids at church and I am forever grateful to them. They spoke positive words into my family that helped Duchess get her scholarship to school last year. He baptized Duchess and I together in February 2009. They have done and said things about me that I do not know but believe are blessings over our lives. Why did God promote them now? The only answer I can come up with is that it is their time to walk in a new blessing and my time to see God glorified in this transition. I believe I had an unction that change was coming in this ministry but I never guessed it would come this drastic nor affect me so greatly.
This is the first year I will teach full-time for an entire school year. I cannot begin to find the words of how hard this transition has been from the corporate arena to Education, to being a manager to serving, and living all these years under the assumption I was functioning in my own ability and strength to learn that I will never and can never teach a single thing without the power of the Holy Spirit. It is hard to explain but I know that I know that I know this will be my best year yet where everyone who sees and hears what happens in my classroom will respond, "Wow, that can only be God!" I trust God more than I ever have this season of my life and He continues to be faithful.
One of my consistent requests to God is for balance in my life. Work, exercise, serving others and taking care of Duchess and my home. I tried writing a schedule that worked for a few days then fell by the side. I tried eliminating things but something else replaced it. Several times I just gave up. This morning when I was reading Luke 2, the study portion of my Bible explained that even as Jesus went about doing His Father's business, He was obedient to His parents. As he grew up, he grew in wisdom and stature so he had to have balance in His life. Since Jesus lives inside of me, I have the wisdom and ability to have balance as well. I have more hope today than all the past months I have been begging God for balance. This is the season He will show me that when I let Him help me, I can say no to people who try to get me to do things to throw me off balance and say yes to the things that maintain balance and order in my life. I am excited!

Bucket List
Since President Clinton posted part of his bucket list on Yahoo, and BrownEnglishMuffin asked me months ago about it and my pastor's wife gave us pretty pink stationary titled My Bucket List for Mother's Day, and because I am avoiding cleaning my office area and going grocery shopping, I decided to record a few things for my Bucket List. These are numbered but not in order of importance however #1, #6, #11, #9, #12 and #8 would be highest on the list. Oh and #10, #3 and #15 also.
1. Play one-on-one basketball in the driveway often with my kids.
2. Ride in a helicopter over NYC.
3. Go on an Alaskan Cruise.
4. Go snowmobiling.
5. Go snorkeling (after I learn how to swim.)
6. Take a safari vacation and sleep in one of the huts in the trees with the animals roaming freely below!!!
7. Sleep past 7am and not feel guilty. Then eat ice cream for breakfast and go back to sleep.
8. Dance, worship and read with my grandchildren.
9. Be happily married for over 50 years.
10. Fly in a hot air balloon.
11. Win over 1,000 souls to Christ.
12. Take kickboxing classes.
13. Give away one or more of my cars to a single mom.
14. Pay for someone's kid to go to private school or college.
15. Teach in another country.
16. Write and publish a book that inspires others.
When I finished this, I almost deleted it and told myself this is such a dream list. Then I remembered that it might be but what if all my dreams came true? I have been blessed in other areas of my life, why not in these? God gives us the desires of our heart, right? I think I will add these to my request to God and believe He said, "Okay, just be patient but remind me from time to time that you are still believing I will do it." Now that I think about it some of these activities could be done on my honeymoon, mission trips, and the sleep thing I could do this weekend and check it off. Wow, my faith in completing this list has increased already!!!

It Is For Me
Regardless if I know all the latest forms of technology, I have learned that just like the devil has tried to use technology to trap us into sinful activities and images, God has used it for His glory. Example: What God Has For Me, Is For Me
I was in the bookstore at my church a few weeks ago and these two young ladies were talking about how good Mrs. April sermon was on Father's Day. An older lady behind them commented the same and also mentioned she had not heard Mrs. April's dad, John Osteen preach. I piped in and told her I hadn't either but found some of his sermons on YouTube. She had no clue about what YouTube was so the younger ladies began explaining to her how to get on the internet and even warned her about some of the other things people have posted there. The scene of all of us was God ordained because it was me, Black and 40-ish, two Latino girls 20-ish and this older Caucasian woman probably 50-ish. All with the same interests and goal- learn more of The Word. Soooooooo awesome!!!
I went on YouTube this morning looking for a video of Hebrew praise dancing mention on Byron Cage's CD. I found a research paper from someone that gave several scripture references on how dancing before and unto God has always been Jewish tradition. It also mentioned how the church has gotten away from it and is now trying to go back to scripture through formal and spontaneous praise dances. I notice even in my church with the great praise music we have that adults are still hesitant but the young people light it up which to me is great!! My spirit is jumping up and down on the inside so my physical body will catch up soon.lol
This is an example of what I look like when my physical body catches up: Feeling So Fly. Right now I am about like the cook in the white jacket but working up to the dude in the brown jacket. lol Luv ya, Jesus!

Top 6 Moments
My top 6 moments in the month of June and not necessarily in this order:
#1 Being chastised by my doctor for not being more diligent about getting into her office for treatment. It was very awkward to feel like a little kid being corrected by their parents for not doing what they know to do but just settling for whatever. All I know, it won't happen again.
#2 Talking to Duchess on the phone and hearing joy, excitement and safety in her voice. Not being able to get a word in because she was so excited to share all that she is doing for the summer at her daddy's house. To hear her preface every event with, "Mama, guess what?..." To have her tell me she is so excited about seeing me today and she is going to run toward me and give me a big hug and kiss! That's my girl!
#3 Recognizing purging and pruning going on in my life and heart. I have been able to see some things in me that I have carried and demonstrated for years that are ugly and need to go and never return. Unsure of where they came from but it does not matter because I have declared they are gone and replaced with my heart for God. An example is disliking people because they seem fake but now praying for them to be delivered and have pure joy in their lives. Another example is feeling excluded when people speak Spanish around me. It wasn't about them it was about me not fulfilling a goal I have let linger for years. Another example is me being truthful about my health and future and stop wishing things would change but doing things daily to make things change.
#4 I love the library! It doesn't matter the size or location. I love the smell, seeing all the books, watching all the people and knowing there are so many things in this one place that I know nothing about but have access to for free! It may seem nerdy but I love the library. Since I am tutoring/home schooling, we go to the library three days a week! The princess I am helping even gets excited every morning when we are leaving for the library. How cool is that for a 9 yr old to be excited about studying in the library over summer break? Only God!
The Fort Worth Downtown library is beautiful! Tan marble and clay walls. If I would have stuck with architecture, I could have designed a beautiful library also. I should take her and Duchess on a field trip to the FW library. They would be amazed at the high ceiling and multiple floors of books too. I think we will!

I have only been to the Library of Congress once in D.C. The downtown library here has clean and nice study rooms which are helpful or you can sit out in the open and work from your own laptop. All classes of people are welcomed in the library which is maybe why I like it too.
One of the librarians who I saw often died last year unexpectantly and I remember my last conversation with her. When we were checking out books and movies one time, she noticed my name and said her daughter's middle name was my first name and her first name was my middle name. We smiled at each other, I thanked her for helping us and we left the library thinking we would see her again.
#5 Sitting at one of my friend's house laughing about things we shared in the past. Some scary, not so positive but mostly good life lessons. Knowing I am always welcomed in their house and that we respect each other's lifestyle and choices. Knowing that I can never just visit them for a few minutes because conversations always turn into hours. Looking at how God orchestrated friendships in my life from years ago that have stood life's obstacles. I met these friends when I was 18 yrs old so we have seen each other go through some things. I have been the lamaze coach to one of their foster children; watched their youngest son grow from a brat to a powerful Minister and missionary; pray through trials; laugh through family incidences; disagree strongly on a life decision that God worked for my good; and countless blessings back and forth. Our relationship has moved from child and parent to adult friends and I really like it that way.
#6 One of my favorite places to hang out besides the library and my friends house I mentioned in Moment #5 is my other friend's house in Mansfield. Besides having a beautiful home in a gated neighborhood- which I think that it soooo cool- her home is so peaceful. It's like you can go there and sit at the dining table and your food taste extra good because of the blessing that flows through her house. That maybe hard for some people to imagine but it is true. I think for me her home is a combination of the library and my other friend's house so I can get both blessings in one stop. My friend is very knowledgeable in a lot of things and not stingy- always willing to share and pour into me. I imagine there has been times that she is exhausted from teaching and training me when we should be having just casual conversation but I am a little sponge when I go there. Anyway, this is another house that I know I am always welcomed so I try to bless her as much as I can so she knows I never take her home, her life and her love for me and my family for granted.
Unsure why I did this post. I think it was triggered after reading Job 1:12 and Job 42 this morning. When God allowed satan to take everything from Job but his life, Job's immediate reaction was worship to God. By the end of the story, Job got everything back and more. So I want to remember to worship God immediately not just when satan is allowed to attack me, but in all the good things in my life as well. I worship God because He is sooooo awesome for giving me moments like I wrote above and making my latter days greater than the rest!

The Pool of Mercy
Click on the title to this post and it will take you to a commentary on John 5. It is long but will change your life's view on mercy.
One of my all-time favorite sermons from my pastor, Gary Simons, is from John 5. I can see myself in the sanctuary when he taught on this just like it was yesterday and it was probably 2-3 yrs ago. I know the section where I was sitting but I do not remember what I was wearing. I remember the Power of God hitting me to where I jumped up and down with my right arm pumping in the air and my Bible tucked under my left arm. I remember being stirred up when he laid down on the platform describing the lame man who was near the pool for 38 yrs but never made it in when the waters were stirred by the Holy Spirit. I remember the stirring inside of me getting stronger the more Pastor Gary scooted himself to the edge of the stage describing how when we want to be healed by God bad enough, we will find a way to get in the water. My spirit exploded when he rolled down the stairs! It was one of the most awesome experiences in my life thus far.
Well somehow God will connect my study time this morning to my request to have a "heart for God". I believe this means that when I ask Him for things and do things that my primary motive is to please Him and glorify Him on earth. I know He is cleaning some things out and replacing those spaces with Him but I do not understand all that I am changing into. All I know is that I am excited and I am trying hard to surrender my agenda and embrace His. It is harder than it seems because of my list of things I wanted to read and study this summer. Right now all I hear from Him is, "Focus on the love." Focus on loving people. Learn how to love differently. Listen to their hearts not look at their actions. Show mercy, compassion and love. People need it. This involves risking rejection, people thinking I am a fanatic or Jesus freak and I have to embrace that. Part of the commentary link I read this morning for John 5 stated that as Believers we must pass through evil and good reports, plus avoid listening to both. The good reports of what others say God is doing in our lives could make us boast on us and not God; and the evil reports of what God is not doing right now could make us depressed.
Prior to asking for a "heart for God", I continously ask for wisdom. I have received a lot in my 41 yrs but I really want a heart for God. I read in an article from Dr. Charles Stanley how Solomon was one of the wisest men that ever lived but did not always make wise decisions. Plus in the midst of his wisdom, he let go his heart for God and sin just took over his life. Love supercedes wisdom so that's what I am going after and believing that the love will bring wisdom also. Thank You Holy Spirit for the pool of Mercy I am in right now!

Gas Light and Door
I believe I have learned my lesson now to not wait until my gas light comes on to get gas. I use to ride around a few more kilometers estimating how many more miles I had left before I would be driving on grace and fumes. Thanks to my Lord and Savior I have never had to walk due to running out of gas or any other malfunctions so Lord I truly appreciate Your grace!
Well today I ran errands, went to work, ran more errands, went back to work and as I was heading home the gas light came one so I thought I better get gas now or I won't make it to church in the morning. Plus I do not have time to stop in the morning so I actually drove by my apt complex to the closest gas station. My intent was to get only $5 because their gas is higher than most gas stations and tomorrow afternoon I would stop at a cheaper station and fill up. This would be enough to turn off the "low gas" light and to another gas station tomorrow.
Jammin' to Toby Mac as I pulled into the station and having a positive attitude as usual, I turn off the radio, take out my debit card, turn off the A/C then the ignition. Same routine for me. Push down on the lever to pop the door to my gas cover and nothing happened. I do it 5 - 6 more times and nothing. My first thought is that this has to work because I need gas.
After standing in 90+ degree heat praying over my car, thanking God Duchess is not with me, hoping anyone of the men who keep pulling up to buy gas would offer to help me since I am using my keys to try and pry it open but none offer. I go inside and ask a man who I saw pull up in a car with the same make as mine and asked if he knew of another way to open it and he suggested using my keys to pry it open. I go back out to try it and afraid to break the door and/or my keys so I stop. I go inside and ask the store clerks for a screw driver and they ask a customer to help me. He takes two screw drivers and is concerned about breaking the door so stop after he sees he is scratching my car. Scratches were the least of my concerns.
So I call my neighbor for suggestions but no answer. I call my friend and no answer but text reply she is unable to talk. So I text her my dilemma and she responds with suggestions. I call roadside assistance but they cannot help because it is considered maintenance and they only offer towing or fuel. I need fuel and the door to the fuel open but that did not apply.
So my friend tells me to call her husband. He recommends going to Auto Zone or Pep Boys and asking one of them to pop it open. I was not forsure if I had enough gas to make it a mile up the street to Auto Zone but what other choice did I have. So without shame, I laid my hands over the door of my gas tank and prayed out loud and asked God for favor to make it to Auto Zone and for someone who could resolve this issue. I agreed to drive by faith and not by sight.
All three traffic lights turned green between the gas station and Auto Zone so I did not have to stop and idle. When I got inside, I tried my best not to look distressed or desperate but realized I was because I began babbling to the clerk when I was asking for help. He was cute but that was not on my mind at the time. Somehow he deciphered that I was asking him to pop the door to my gas tank.
He came out to my car with the screw driver but nothing would budge. He pushed the lever down on the inside of the car that failed for me, and wahla- the door opened. I asked how he did it and he jokingly began asking me how long I have had the car as if I did not know how to operate the gas door lever. Then he pulled the lever up and the trunk and gas door opened. That's not suppose to happen. We closed the gas door to make sure it was fixed and it would not open again. I began praying out loud and asking God for help not thinking or caring what the Auto Zone employee would think. He seemed determined to help me and he did. He stuck his hand through the lining inside the trunk and pulled out the mechanism that releases the latch to the door. He showed me that it was worn out and rightly so after six years of use. If we both weren't sweaty, I would have hugged him. Instead I just told him to pray I make it across the parking lot to Quik Trip to get gas and I did.
While my tank was filling up with gas, I went inside and bought him a gift card. That was the least I could do for him helping me for free. He provided excellent customer service and technically I was not a customer. Anyway, I drove back to Auto Zone, gave him the gift card, briefly watched his surprise and jetted down the street toward my home.

Realization
Yesterday was one of the most exciting days in my classroom thus far. The atmosphere was positive! The Spirit of God was present. The students came in ready to learn and conquer. I say this because it is rare- or it had been prior to yesterday- for students to be eager to take tests. They were asking me if they could take it before the time I had scheduled and at first I was suspicious. Then I decided to listen to some of them and roll with it. They did awesome!!!!
Students who have struggled most of the semester made above 80 and one of them was so excited to have made a 90 on her Science Final that she nearly tackled me giving me a hug. She and I both were teary-eyed in front of the class and probably for the same reason: she proved to herself what she could do when she study. She already knows she is smart but now she knows how to study vs. reading over materials. There is a difference.
Originally, I was really concerned because Fridays are multiple test days. However, they have known this all year but some still struggle. Yesterday I saw new attitudes and determinations so I will keep praying and believing that they will remember this day as a success and victory for them.
In addition, one of the K5 classes came and prayed with my class. I know you are thinking, why is so many classes coming to pray over Sixth Grade? Yesterday, I think it reminded all the kids how as teachers we think prayer in school is just as important as curriculum. Plus it gives them opportunity to exercise their faith and gifts in prayer with another kid.
My class received an extra bonus from it because now they have been exposed to the behaviors, questions and attitudes of people much smaller than them. This is preparation for them to fulfill their responsibilities next week as Educator For A Day. Each Sixth Grade student will teach a class K5 thru 5th Grade while the "real" teacher just guides or facilitate. I am excited for them because they will learn so many things about themselves they may have not learned otherwise. I will have them write a 2-page paper on their experience and encourage them to put it in their personal journals at home. They are really excited and some have had their "professional attire" picked out since we originally told them they would do this over two weeks ago.
God is good and worthy to be praised! I am learning that fewer things are better than seeing a child realize how powerful they are in a positive way!

Two minute update
What have I been doing since my last post? Hanging on to the robe of Jesus by my fingernails is what it has felt like. My career change is more than a schedule change but emotional, physical and intellectually stimulating but kicking my behind at the same time. I love teaching, learning and growing on a daily basis. Yes the salary is over $30,000 less than what I was making in the corporate arena but God said that I lack nothing so I will take Him at His Word. Plus I have lost over 20lbs since I started teaching so that is a great benefit. My classroom is at the end of the hall, the elevator was broken for over a month and I have no time to sit and snack so this diet plan is working out great!
In the meantime, Duchess has been adjusting to me being at her school everyday. Sometimes good and sometimes not so good. She has finally figured out how to pump her legs on a swing so I do not have to push anymore. She is getting better at jump rope and realized she can catch a ball with one hand. I know fascinating stuff for a six year old. Oh, she also realized that having your teacher send you to your mom's classroom is not a good thing. She has been using her prayer language more without me telling her so I thank God for that. Her class were the first performers in the school talent show last week singing and dancing to "JC." They have shirts made by her awesome teacher that read: Who's in the house? Jesus Christ! Tomorrow she will be one of the students honored for Chapel so life is good!
My class has been prayed over twice now by the Second Graders who all pray in tongues. A few of the Sixth Graders have since received their prayer languages. They have learned that talking negatively about each other is letting the devil win in their lives and not operating in the authority that God has given us so some are trying hard to walk as Christians and not kids in the world. Their brains have been stretched further than ever before and I think some of them actually like it. Most of all I believe they are realizing that God truly loves them and is giving them "the best" in every area of their lives.
Most of us are counting the weeks until summer vacation but I can say that I am praying the days slow down so I can provide more information and knowledge to them. They want to learn and my prayer has been that they hunger and thirst for righteousness regardless of what society says about pre-teens. These kids are smart, talented and have dreams. They are learning that they have to pray over themselves to keep their dreams and goals in line- Mama can't do it for them always. They are seeing that they have what they say and that prayer is powerful and useful 24-7-365.
I have pics but not parental consent to share online so just picture in your head 15 awesome Sixth Graders in school uniforms trying to talk over each other when I allow time for them to share in class. They do not get to talk often so when they do it is like a mighty rumble. However, they make me laugh with their realities and make me hopeful with their dreams!

It's Gonna Be Worth It
Yesterday during a staff meeting I was fortunate to attend on a Substitute Teaching assignment, they did meditation with a song that rings true for everything we do for God. The chorus to the song was:
It's gonna be worth it
It's gonna be worth it
It's gonna be worth it all!
It took me a few minutes to really tie the song to everything I am currently facing: studying, health issues, tears, parenting a strong-willed child, short nights, uncertainties, blessings, misunderstandings, attempts, successes, failures, doubt, hope and screams of joy- all are going to be worth it.
One of the hardest things for me about substitute teaching is not being prepared. Not having the pages read ahead of time. Not knowing who will be in the classroom or in the hallway. Not knowing where to park when I go to a new campus. Not knowing which face to present when walking down the hall with high school students taller and bigger than me. (Do I smile or look mean and tough. lol) Not knowing what to expect.
All the challenges I face now- not just teaching- are gonna be worth it because they will give me hope, blessings and wisdom which are the three things I seek most. In the midst of these, others will be encouraged, blessed and more wise regarding choices they make or mountains they climb. God is soooooo good to me that I told Him this morning that I know I am spoiled by Him. I know He sends people and things to me when I need them. I know that I do not and will not teach alone and that is exciting to me. The last few assignments I have had were Science classes which are hard subjects to wrap your brain around regardless if it is one class period or several. Hard to teach and hard to assist students who need help. However, I have worked through them and believe I did what I was suppose to do: help.
It's gonna be worth it.
It's gonna be worth it.
It's gonna be worth it all.
It's gonna be worth it
It's gonna be worth it
It's gonna be worth it all!

(Do I smile or look mean and tough. lol) Not knowing what to expect. However, I am learning that the more I pray ahead of time, the more prepared He makes me. Every assignment I have had thus far has been confirmed that I am where I am suppose to be when I am suppose to be there. One assignment at a public school I felt so relieved when I lifted the overhead screen to write on the board and the teacher had written: If God is for us, who can be against us? Another classroom had tied scripture to all of Bloom's Taxonomy which was so cool. On another assignment where I had to send a student to the office for misconduct went so smooth that I was even shocked he went to the principal's office willingly and class continued on as needed. What was sad was in trying to figure out his name while he was out of the room without permission, hardly any of his classmates knew his name.
During my beginning journey of entering Education, I received a fair amount of discouragement. I heard comments about there is no money in teaching, the kids are bad, it is not worth the headache and you will not have time to do anything else because of grading papers, etc. I may find this to be true with the exception of kids are not bad, some make bad decisions. However, my purpose is the same as it should be: To be where God tells me to be when I am suppose to be there. I think the nay sayers had good intentions but I reminded myself that most do not know what they are suppose to be doing so they definitely do not know what God has called me to do. I am still working myself out with the Lord everyday by faith. Also I learned years ago that everything has a season- careers, jobs and even relationships. However, I think whatever the length of the season, it is worth it. Plus now most of the nay sayers have hushed or become cheerleaders, so God is good!
It's gonna be worth it.
It's gonna be worth it.
It's gonna be worth it all.

Bigger Than Me
It is such a refreshing feeling when you come to the end of yourself and realize, "Life is much bigger than me." Bigger than all the material possessions, much bigger than your savings account and bigger than your human brain can comprehend.
A friend and I was discussing a comment someone made in a meeting we had. The comment made by the individual referenced her chance of winning a ribbon. A paper ribbon that probably cost less than a penny if made outside the US. A chance to be recognized by her peers as "the best". I was saddened by the comment because I thought how what we are learning and doing is much bigger than that. My friend thought the same.
If I pursue my dreams, I would have missed out on meeting some great people. I think of a single Asian woman from one of my classes who is pursuing her dream as a fashion designer. She is over 30 but going for it anyway. Does she have dreams to be the next Donna Karan- does she make clothes? I am guessing since I do not have designer clothes...YET. Anyway, regardless if she is at the peak of her career at 50 or 60 years of age, she is an intelligent, insightful and remarkable person who I am glad I get to meet in this lifetime.
If I did not take my current job inspite of my desire to work in a fancy office building with fast paced environment, I would not have met some godly women who have encouraged and inspired me to give God all I have and watch Him do his thing. Women- married, single, with and without children, educated and experienced, all colors and sizes but most of all they have huge hearts. They make me proud to be a woman knowing with Christ, all things are possible.

No Weapon
Have you ever been in a situation where you know someone is setting you up? A situation where you have evaluated all the pieces to the puzzle and the one corner piece is missing? Or where when you look at the situation and the light at the end of the tunnel is less than one millimeter?
Unfortunately I have found myself in this situation more than once. However, a dear friend reminded me today that God loves His children and "No weapon formed against me shall prosper." That when something not intended for God is used to set us up in a negative way, that God can use it as a setup where He gets the victory. I receive and believe this to be true!
However, prior to sharing the "set-up" with my friend, I was ready to throw in the chips and start a new game. Then I began beating myself up about how quickly I forgot that God is part of the equation. Duh!@#$! I was looking at the mountain through my eyes and not relying on Who I know as the mountain mover and Helper when the mountain doesn't move.
Earlier in the year, I blogged having the faith of a mustard seed. Forgot all about it until now. I did a speech in Toastmasters titled, "I Am God's Favorite". Forgot all about it until now. Forgot all about how God used some work I did not want to do to give me knowledge to be used later as a business owner.
Prior to today, I was just looking at the mountain like a disobedient toddler looking up to parent. Wide-eyed, scared, anticipating the worse but hoping for a hug. Today, I got a big hug!
God reminded me: I am the head and not the tail. I am above only and not beneath. I am a lender not a borrow. All flesh will see the blessing of the Lord in me, upon me and around me. I will climb the mountain, stand on top and praise God and patch up my shield so it is ready and sturdy when the next mountain comes.
I am in awe at how different I am tackling this mountain now that I have taken my eyes off of my inability, and believing in His ability. Thanks for believing friends to give me reminders!
I look forward to posting my success with this project so stay tuned...

Devastating Victory
As most of my friends and family know, this past weekend I had my first date after being divorced for over three years. It was pleasant and something new. A few minutes ago I got a phone call from ole dude's wife. Should I continue...?
This morning I had just blogged how God had shown me peace that passeth all understanding. Okay, God, this was a set-up. He gave me peace last night so I could turn around and use it again this morning. What a set-up!
Anyway, I am sitting at work and my cell phone goes rings with an unidentifiable phone number. When I answered, she said in a sweet and calm voice, "Hi! I saw you sent an email to my husband and was calling to find out what it was about." I had an instant flash back as to when I called the woman that my ex-husband was cheating with and the long pause between my question and her response of, "I'm so sorry."
I tried my best to assure her that I asked him point blank if he was in a relationship and he said he has been divorced for over 9 years. I gave up ALL the info to her after that. The date and place we met, how he approached me and we exchanged cards and that I even talked to his daughter, Stacey, on the phone. She explained that Stacey was from a previous marriage and that him and her recently had boys. They originally had triplets but one died in October of last year. I continued to apologize and then thought of all the things I wanted to know when I was in her shoes. I assured her there was no physical contact whatsoever and even went so far as sharing with her that I am saved and would not jeopardize all that I am believing God for on any man.
She sounded calm throughout our conversation. I shared with her that I know how she feels because it happened to me. However, I told her that she was more calm than I was. She stated that back in the day she would have went off but now life is bigger than this situation. I have mad respect for her in this area.
Anyway, you know how I have confessed that this is my peculiar year. I then began to share with her that God glorifies marriage and that I pray that God will restore their marriage. That God will handle Chris with mercy and that she can forgive him and rebuild what God has put together. I am sure I apologized 10 more times but she seemed sincere in her thank you, and we ended with, "May God bless you."
When I hung up the phone, I closed my office door and immediately cried, "FATHER, YOU PROMISED NO DECEITFUL MEN WOULD ENTER MY LIFE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!" I was devastated. Not because I knew ole dude was not Boaz, but because when I finally grew open to dating again, my first time out the blocks, I get knocked out by a hit in the head with the ball.
Thirty minutes before typing this, I was a wreck. Snot nose, make-up running and sobbing speech. Of course I had to call somebody. I called Mrs. M and she helped me see the victory in it. God spoke to my spirit on Sunday that Chris was disobedient in some area of his life. I assumed it was his business so I gave him a copy of Pastor Gary's sermon: Obedience is the Greatest Form of Worship.
The victory is that I did nothing wrong and God will convict Chris through the CD, me and now his wife. She called me back while I was typing this and stated that she confronted him but he denied it all. She said she is trying to figure out what she is going to do. God, move in their life and make their relationship be a testimony to you.
so if you are single and reading this, know God is a healer. God is a restorer. God is still faithful. And I still believe that God will not send any deceitful men my way. That as you walk in obedience, God will get all the glory!

I had an instant flash back as to when I called the woman that my ex-husband was cheating with and the long pause between my question and her response of, "I'm so sorry."
Understanding
Last night the Money Smart class I taught graduated and it was a joyous time. Not only was I so proud of everyone, but I believe their lives have been changed from a vital choice they have made. They took the step to learn more about managing their finances so they can have freedom in controlling their money.
During the dinner part of the banquet, my cell phone rang. Normally I turn it off during class but I must have left it on by accident. Later, I realized it was no accident. Qenya's daycare provider called at 6:45pm inquiring about who was picking her up. My heart started beating a million times a minute it felt like. I immediately called her back and stated I would get in touch with my friend who was scheduled to pick her up while I attended our last class session.
I called my friend's cell number and got her voicemail. I left a message trying to stay as calm as possible and thinking the whole time, this is out of character for her, something must be wrong. I immediately asked God to make sure her and her daughter- who she would be traveling with- were safe no matter where they were at. I then called another friend with panic in my voice asking her to pick up Qenya. She agreed, thank God, but my spirit was still unsettled at the uncertainty of my other friend.
I called her again and got her voicemail. I then started talking to myself saying that I prayed for their safety so stand on that. I could not leave my class because we were just beginning the award ceremony where I pass out their certificates. I thought briefly of how was I going to pay for the late fees to the daycare. I thought what if my other friend was unreachable, what would I have done. I knew Qenya was safe but I thought what if my daycare provider had other plans since all kids are suppose to be picked up by 6:30pm. I felt guilty for being there watching a dream come to pass when my friends are inconveniencing themselves to help grow my business by watching after my daughter. Needless to say, I was a total wreck on the inside but I hope I think I kept it together on the outside.
One of my former students was sitting next to me when I was asked to come up to the front of the room and announce the graduates. I asked her to wave at me if my cell phone vibrated again and she agreed. We made it through all the graduates and I immediately went to her to see if my phone went off. It did but I do not recall her signaling me which was probably good. What would I have done? I immediately checked my voicemail and it was my other friend stating it was now 7:05pm and she had Qenya at her house. I felt some relief but we still did not know the whereabouts of my friend and her daughter.
Around 7:32pm, immediately after the graduation, I left and sped toward home. I called my godmother's cell phone but only voicemail so I hung up. I called my godfather's house and he picked up. I asked if he had talked to my friend's husband and explained why. He just hung up from talking to him and agreed to call him back to find out about his wife. I waited about 2 minutes then called my godfather back and he stated that she and her daughter were at home and when her husband called and asked if she was to pick up Qenya today, she screamed and began to cry in fear of forgetting. She had so much on her plate that day that she just forgot. I have to admit, I truly understand.
So I called my friend who actually picked up Qenya and waited to call my other friend until she calmed down. Now my head was swimming with confusion as to why I wasn't mad, freaking out anymore, or screaming for what could have happened. I exhaled at this point for answered prayer of my friends safety and thought, "God, why am I so calm? This is not the old me." That was my answer.
When I was almost to Qenya, my friend called to apologize and explain how her schedule was packed with various errands that she forgot. I tried to assure her that I knew it was an accident and shared with her that my prayer was for her safety more so then anything else. I know her family loves Qenya, and her husband stated he would bet me that she will never forget again. I knew this even without him saying anything.
After I look back on the whole incident, I see God's hand in it all. I do not understand everything I am suppose to learn from it, but I know that God is good. My daycare provider did not consider the incident as neglect because I have never had any late fees during the two years my daughter has been in her care. Most daycare centers call CPS when a child is not picked up. That's God! My other friend was close to the daycare at the time I called in panic asking her to pick up Qenya and she did it with no hesitation. That's God! My godfather was on the phone with my friend's husband so we were able to confirm the safety of my friend and her daughter immediately. That's God! God made His Word come alive when I remembered Philippians 4:7, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." That's God!

You Already Know
JJ sent me a link this morning that set me on fire for the Lord! I was already reeved up from my commute listening to J. Moss but this was over the top.
The link was to Kirk Cameron's ministry: Way of the Master . According to this ministry's, 150,000 people die every 24 hours and most without a Savior. Their goal is to inspire and equip Christians to save lost souls. Watch this video:
http://www.wayofthemaster.com/watchwitnessing.shtml
There are several videos of Kirk and other people doing Street Ministry on this link. I sent the link to BrownEnglishMuffin, not so much for her to hear the questions they used to witness, but for the reactions of the people who they spoke with on the streets and airplane. It was non-confrontational and most of the people knew they were not living right and had the option to change it that day. Some of them knew about Jesus but had little revelation that going to heaven involved more than being a nice person and asking God for forgiveness when you knowingly do something wrong.
Just from their efforts, at least one member of that Gang may not go to hell when he dies, nor kill one of our relatives, disrespect somebody's sister or be incarcerated for the rest of his life. All of them were attentive and one of them kept asking questions which to me shows a desire to live in eternity with Jesus and not in the pit of hell with the devil.
In watching this, I thought, what if Ray Comfort, Kirk and his colleagues stopped doing Street Ministry. What if all of us who call ourselves Christians stop trying to save lost souls or share the love of God with others? What if we only responded to the Commandments that we liked vs all of them that are designed to set us free? What if we- everyone reading this- are on our way to hell? Would we want someone to talk to us for 5 minutes and give us information to save us from an eternal life of fire, screaming, horror and darkness?
I would.

Remnant of Escape
As I mentioned in the previous post, God gives us a remnant of escape. A remnant is a narrow space or area. No matter the circumstance or situation, within a split second, Our Father, can snatch us from the devil's claws into His loving arms where we are safe.
Like most Christian singles, I desire to date without all the temptations that our flesh add to the equation. Not just the sexual temptations, but urges to convert to old habits, old ways, backward thinking, stereotypes, sinful thoughts and behaviors, bad mannerisms, and whatever else. Satan on the other hand tries to bring all these things to the forefront but we must remember that God is just a breath away. Saying the Name of Jesus before you see the person, before you hear their voice, before you recognize how nice they look in that sweater or how perfect their teeth are, prayer should occur. Not just for them but for you to not toss away the years that you have surrendered to God and worked hard at keeping His commandments.
The hard part though is being happy about the attention and attraction but not losing perspective of your First Love. Your True Love. Tu a Dios. Not letting phone calls distract you from Bible Study and meditation. Not letting a newly heard laugh interfere with the giggles from your kids. Not you making time for them to fit him in your schedule but letting God provide opportunities for him to fit into God's schedule for you.
I think all of this falls under the scriptures that speak on depart from iniquities. It is not worth giving up all the time invested in Kingdom building, reading your Bible, serving, praying, believing, stepping out on faith, trusting, abiding, and expecting miracles just to dabble in sin. For any singles reading this, it is not worth giving up what God has that is eternal for what man has that is temporal.
That is the decision factor there: Do you want short-term discomfort for long-term gain? A resounding YES should be the answer. Do you want God to reveal all His secrets to you as He promised in His Word? YES. Do you want the rewards of obedience? YES. Do you want all the things you have been praying for over the years to come to pass? YES. Then run when God provides the remnant of escape. Don't look back like Lot's wife; but run like Forrest Gump! Say no now so God can say yes! It is easy to say no when temptation is not breathing on your neck, but I believe if we say no ahead of time, God will give us a remnant of escape!

My Peculiar Day
Yesterday was a peculiar and great day! As I told someone, "I love my life." I thank God for where I am in my life and expect for Him to elevated me in in every area of my life.
Friday night, Qenya went to stay with her dad for the weekend. Normally when he picks her up on Fridays, I come back home wondering what do I do now. I miss her when she is not with me but thank God that I know He always has Angels of protection and perfection around her. This Friday night was different. I was looking forward to sleep. She left at 8pm and I was sleep by 9:30pm.
I had set the alarm for 2am so I could organize my materials for a job I had on Saturday morning. I knew the night before I had everything but God, so far, gives me wonderful ideas and presentations early in the morning. I love these times with Him. So I got up at 2am and got on my knees and face before God thanking Him for everything. If you have not done it, get up early one morning and talk to God. There is nothing like it. It is indescribable The Power that will overtake you being in The Presence of the Lord. To be allowed to enjoy His day and to enter into His Glory. Hallelujah!
So after I prayed, I knew I had a lot I wanted to get done this weekend so I made a list. I stopped when I had to turn the paper over to write because I knew it all would not get done. I also planned to squeeze 15 min on my elliptical machine this morning but it did not happen.
Since I had a job to go to by 8am, I had to wash my car. Yes, I should have done it Friday night but I didn't so oh well. So around 3:15am, I drove to an automatic car wash. While the machine was washing my car, I read my KIDMO lesson for today. It is a good one- like they all are. The focus is on loving the unlovable. We will draw pictures of people who have not been kind or loving to us. Then we will throw them in one big pile and see who can pick up the most within a given time period with only two fingers. One from each hand. The lesson is that we have a limited time on earth to bring others to the Kingdom of God. How many do we want to help save? I look forward to seeing and praying with my fourth graders in KIDMO!
After my car was clean, I returned home and made sure I had all my materials for the two presentations. I was blessed with teaching Money Smart to teens at the Annual Family Expo sponsored by the AKA's. God gave me the theme of TAKE CONTROL so this was my focus with the young ladies and men I taught Saturday morning. I was disappointed with the turn out but I remembered God told me before I had one client that if He sends me one, I will change that family and have done what He asked me. For the two sessions, there was a total of 8 students and I believe God showed me one student for sure who will convince his parents to put his money in the bank to grow interest and not leave it in his money jar at home.
Once the workshops were done, I had plans for a first date. I will have to share a tiny bit of it in a different blog but let me say this: Everybody is looking to be loved! So if you are married, stay married because being single and dating in the 21st century is the hardest challenge of a Christian! It is fun but the devil brings out things you think are dead or never knew existed, BUT GOD, will keep us IF we pray ahead of time and in the midst of building relationships. God did marvels in my life yesterday and I thank Him. Look for blog in a few days titled: Remnant of Escape.
This morning, I thank God for confirming something I had questions about after my date yesterday. My date was great, the man is dark like an Oreo cookie which I love, sexy, educated, aggressive, observant, loving and has nice teeth. However, I kept praying for my thoughts to be protected and keep God first.
The Holy Spirit lead me to Ezra 9 this morning. I have never read the book of Ezra nor know anything about him. However, these scriptures were perfect like my Father always performs. The chapter is about Ezra being ashamed that once again the Israelites have purposely sinned against God. In verse 6, he tells God the sins are so great the he is ashamed. But God in verse 8 shows them a "remnant of escape". He has given us grace and in verse 13 "...has punished us less than our iniquities deserved and have given us such a remnant." The revelation was that God always gives us an escape from sinning against Him and He gave me and my date just that. Praise the Lord!
So I love peculiar days! God is still first. God is the love of my life. God is the Joy of my life!

Happy Valentine's Day To Me!
Today has to be the best Valentine's Day thus far!
I received a package in the mail on Monday but did not open it until this morning. I was sure it was a treat because it was from my friend CB in Tennessee! She is the Queen of sending cards for no reason at the perfect time with the perfect picture and perfect words of encouragement, congratulations and prayer. Needless to say she is considered a saint because I am bad about recipricating even though I know she does not do it for this reason. If she did, I would have 100+ cards less because I believe I have kept every card and book marker she has sent me.
The best part of opening the package was noticing it the handwritten note she had written inside the recycled box next to the red curly ribbon: "Lay it on heavy for Valentine's Day!" An immediate smile struck my face because before even unwrapping the bubble wrap and heart decorated tissue paper, I was excited to see:

I would have screamed but it was about 4am and my neighbor in the upstairs apartment was not awake yet or at least I did not hear him moving around. So I danced in my kitchen and wished CB could have seen my huge smile and dance because she would have laughed as we usually do when we see each other and over the phone.
I have wonderful friends and I truly thank God for them!!!!! Not just for Sistah D and CB in Tennessee blessing me all the time, but because I am loved. I read that those who are loved give love so I hope this rings true for me. I believe I do.
Well, CB is definitely one of my friends from God. We met while working at the same college over 10 years ago. We use to eat lunch together almost everyday on campus at the Thresher fountain. I miss sitting on the porch of her apartment and walking the long dusty road behind campus to just talk and relax. We've had lunch in VA, MD, DC and TX so I am due a trip to TN before she relocates to who knows where. She has held by baby when she was only a few weeks old, and I have held her up in prayer while she completes her dissertation.
I miss her and my friends that live outside of TX, but like I said before, I truly thank God for them!

Let him do it!
During my commute to work today, I laughed at myself and said, "Self, be honest. I want someone to take care of me!" Before Black women across the world start screaming just give this post a chance.
All my life I have heard how you don't need a man for anything. Well, I beg to differ. It is not we need men to do things for us but we need them to do things that we want them to do for us. There is a difference.
I need a man to do all the things I want him to do that I could do for myself but rather he do them than me. For example: Wash and vacuum my car once a week or the same day a bird poops on the hood; make regular appointments for me to get a pedicure; buy me a suit just because and not because it is my birthday or Valentine's day; draw me a bubble bath and take the kids to the library or to the park; cook without an attitude after a hard day at work; take me on vacations that involve activities I have never done before like skiing; send me an email or text message about something the Holy Spirit revealed to him during the day; and save his money for gifts rather than putting them on a credit card.
Some women may think I can do all these things without a man. That is my point- we should be able to and not feel guilty if we do not want to do things ourselves but want Boaz to do it.
How many of us miss Full Service gas stations? For everyone outside Jersey, this is where a gas attendant pumps your gas and you never have to get out of the car. I would love not having gas smell on my hands. I ran out of wippes in my glove compartment to clean my hands so I have to use that bacteria gel stuff that stinks to me but not as bad as gas smell.
The point is I believe everybody- men and women- need a partner to do things for them. The things you need help with and the things you just don't want to do and have someone else do it for you. I heard a pastor preach to singles about stop looking for someone like you. Look for someone that you can help and that can help you. This is how you compliment each other as mates. Both parties bring their assets and talents to the table, and before saying, "I do", make sure the puzzle fits and stays together from there.
So what will I do for him that he can do for himself but prefer not to do? You have to ask Boaz when he comes.

Response to a Telemarketer
I use to be sick of getting calls from telemarketers but now I decided that both of us will benefit from the call. I am too cheap to add Caller ID to my home phone service so I answer the phone whenever it rings. I get collection calls for someone with the last name of Juan Ortiz and Nicole Clark. So if one or both of you are reading this, please contact me and I will give you my business number to assist you with getting your finances in order.
Anyway, last night I received a telemarketing call from Bank of America. The young man began to offer me insurance. Unsure if it was life insurance or that new insurance for when you suddenly become ill and can't pay your bills. Besides not wanting the insurance, I prophesy health and healing over my body regularly so I truly believe I do not need this type of insurance.
So after his first pause for me to confirm that he could continue with his script, I asked him that if I listen to his promotion will he let me tell him about Jesus Christ. He replied, "Sure." I will admit I was shocked and should have ran and got my Bible but I decided to wing it.
It took him less than two minutes to go through his marketing program before the offer was recited. When he gave the offer, I declined by saying No, thank you. He then thanked me for my time and gave me an #800 to call if I had questions. Before he could hang up I reminded him that he agreed to listen to me. He said, "Okay."
I asked him if he had a church home or place of worship. He said no and I asked why. He said he works on Sundays. I explained to him that a lot of Christian churches have services on Saturdays also. He did not respond. I shared with him the importance of having a church family and encouraged him to rearrange his work schedule so he can find a church home. He said thanks and good-bye.
Hopefully next time I will be better prepared and instead of beginning with a question about a church home, ask, "Do you know where you will live when you die?" I read this somewhere as a good opening question when you want to witness to someone. Depending on their response, your response should result in telling them Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, you shall be saved.
Another question but it provokes a lengthier conversation is to ask someone, "Do you believe?" I read this on Kenneth Hagin Ministries website. It engages the other person to ask believe in what and any Christian can then share what they believe and why.
Don't let your telemarketing calls go to waste or be one-sided. Share with that person your beliefs. What is the worst that can happen? They hang up. What is the best that can happen?
